Today the students were introduced to Writer's Workshop! We started by learning about the three ways to tell a story. The first way is just with pictures. A detailed picture can tell a great story! The second way is to use 'Bubblegum Writing' which is our best effort to sound out our words using our knowledge of letter sounds. The third step is to use 'Book Writing'. Book writing is full sentences with correct spelling and punctuation. We are all at different stages in grade one and that's ok! As long as we DO OUR BEST!
The students were then introduced to the 'Quiet Critters'. The Quiet Critters live in a sound proof jar because they have tiny ears and noisy classrooms hurt them! Once the students begin to write, the Quiet Critters can come out of the jar and sit on the desks to watch us write!
We will continue to develop our writing with Writer's Workshop throughout the year adding specific lessons and conferencing about specific goals and strategies. Ask your child about their journal writing!
