Have a Wonderful Spring Break!

We had a very busy but fun day today! We played games for our last day of inline skating; even Ms. Carstairs joined in;)
This afternoon we celebrated everyone's UnBirthday with cards, math activities and our own special treat.
I would also like to give another special thanks to my two HEART award winners; Tristan and Eliana for always showing helpfulness, empathy, acceptance, responsibility and truthfulness. Well done you two!

I hope everyone has a wonderful, relaxing Spring break. If you are coming to the Trolls movie tonight I will see you there!

Un-Birthday Tomorrow!

The school will be celebrating everyone's Un-Birthday Tomorrow in each class! This allows for all students to feel special, even those who may feel left out because their birthdays fall in the summer months. Each child can just bring their own special treat and we will be participating in birthday themed activities for the afternoon:-)

Our Short Week and Inline Skating!

Our sight words this week are well, their, if, how and do. We finished up our Science unit on senses by finishing our Spring Poems that students may have brought home yesterday, or will bring home today!

As it was the first day of Spring yesterday, our class did some 'Spring cleaning' by bringing home all work since January. Please empty the yellow folders, keep work and send the folders back to school! When we return from the break we will start fresh with new units, writing and other work.

The students finally started inline skating yesterday and they had a blast! We will continue with skating both today and tomorrow. Wednesday is the student's last day before Spring Break and there is also another movie night at 7:00 that night. We will be showing 'Trolls' and selling popcorn to raise money for the playground. Thank you parent council for all that you do!

Leprechaun Traps and St. Patty's Day!

The students had a blast kicking off their Building Things unit by designing and teaming to build a trap to catch a leprechaun!
This morning when we arrived, our room had been turned upside down!! That sneaky little guy also left some of his gold....in the form of a lucky, green coin that the students took home.
It was a fun day!

Just a reminder that next week there is school for the students on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday only and we have inline skating all 3 days for an hour so please remember your helmets!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend:-)

Eric Carle inspired art

The students are continuing with their author study of Eric Carle by creating some art inspired by his process! We started by discussing all the Eric Carle books we have used so far this year for activities. In addition to our two wall stories; The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Panda Bear, Panda Bear, what do you See?, we also watched a video of The Artist who Painted a Blue Horse narrated by Eric Carle himself! Then today one of our classmates read her library book entitled Mister Seahorse. We looked at his art carefully then watched a video on how he creates his unique illustrations for his books. We decided to give it a try! The results were beautiful :-)

Scholastic

I sent Scholastic book orders home yesterday for March. If you would like to order books, please bring the form back to me by this Friday, March 17th.

Thanks!

March 13-17

This week our sight words are first, water, been, called and who. Please check the yellow folders for their word work and help them by spelling the words, using them in sentences, and finding them in books, on signs and in the house!

We have continued with our Panda Bear, Panda Bear story with Mrs. W's class. We have been doing activities brainstorming strong verbs or action words and juicy adjectives or describing words! We will be doing another piece of writing that the students will be able to bring home and share with you in a couple of weeks.

For science, we are finishing our Senses unit by writing a Spring poem using our five senses. We started by brainstorming ideas of what we SEE in Spring and then adding juicy adjectives and strong verbs to make our writing more interesting. We will continue today with what we taste in Spring. We will kick off our building unit on Thursday by designing a Leprechaun trap that we will begin building on Friday! Thank you for the building supplies; we have collected quite a bit so far! Also, please wear green on Friday for St. Patrick's day and remember that it is an early dismissal day so the students will go home at lunch.

For social we have been sharing our family interviews with the class and celebrating our differences and similarities!

Hope everyone has a wonderful week! :)
