Short Vowel Song!

Students learned the short vowel song! This is to help distinguish those similar sounds and apply it to their reading and their writing skills. Ask your child if they remember how it goes!

October is bucket fillers month!

Today we read the story How Full is your Bucket? Students were able to relate to the concept of having an imaginary bucket that loses water when we are sad or mad,  and gains water when someone does something nice for us or when we are happy. The students were able to make their own buckets and write an example of how they could fill it. Throughout the month of October we will be taking note of kind acts committed by ourselves and by others and use blue pompoms to actually 'fill' up our buckets. At the end of the month, the buckets should be overflowing and the students will be able to bring them home with happy memories of sharing and kindness:-)

Collaborative math Games!

Students reviewed the skill of using a number line to add numbers with sums up to 10. They partnered up, rolled two dice, and challenged their partner to show the addition of those two numbers by making jumps on a number line. Ask your child to show you this method using a ruler or measuring tape!

Mad science!

Today the students were able to put their mad scientist goggles on and get messy! They used containers with the 3 primary colours and eyedroppers and experimented with mixing. We had fun, but we sure got messy!

After we read Mix It Up to confirm our findings!

Ask your child about a colour they made by mixing other colours.

Scholastic Update

It has come to my attention that my name was not under the Parent Pay section on the Scholastic website. I have called and fixed the problem, so you should be able to find me and pay online as of now.
Hope there was no inconvenience, and I am still collecting orders for books until Friday!

Twonies for Terry and our fire drill

Today we practiced our first fire drill. We will have about 6 throughout the year. The students did pretty well! Please review with your child; 'Safe, Silent and Serious'.
We also started to talk about Terry Fox in preparation for our Terry Fox run and fundraiser on Friday. If you would like to contribute, please bring a twonie!

One of the students made a lovely comment when she said, "Terry Fox was brave so during a fire drill we should be brave too."

Leaf Man!

Today our class joined up with Ms. Bakkan's class for a nature walk. While on our walk, we collected as many different leaves as we could find; we found leaves of different shapes, sizes and colours! We even saw a rabbit on our walk.
When we returned to class with our collection of leaves, we used our magnifying glasses to inspect the leaves and all their little details.
After we did some investigating, we listened to the story Leaf Man by Lois Elhert. We then chose leaves to make our very own leaf man, like the one from the story.
We had a lot of fun with this project and we were able to incorporate science, inquiry, literacy and art! Ask me about my Leaf Man.
